AMC related projects

Vodafone has launched the UK’s first commercial standalone 5G network with us and the Uexplore programme allows SMEs to access that network and receive digital mentoring and support.

The STELLAR Project (Innovate UK funded, 2020-2022) is specifically designed to address the UK’s housing shortage. Accelerating research into Modern Methods of Construction (MMC) using 3D ‘digital twins’, parametric modelling, simulation, logistics, and advanced automation/production approaches. This work has received positive attention from the MMC supply chain, housing associations and the House of Lords. The project is led by Totally Modular Ltd, and is supported by a consortium of experts to provide social housing developers/associations, owners, and supply chain partners with specific offsite solutions.

The Construction Futures Research Centre (CFRC) builds on our region’s competitive advantage in manufacturing, assembly and materials technologies. The furtherance of this work is seen as an international centre of excellence in MMC/AMC.

The Institute of Coding (IoC) is a £40m national programme, made up of 25 HEI partners and over 60 industry partners with a core mission to develop the next generation of digital talent. The IoC team works with industry to develop specialist skills training in areas of strategic importance, produce research, analysis and intelligence to anticipate future skills gaps, and generate a nationwide increase in higher-level digital skill capabilities for those already in work, and improve employability in graduates.

The Institute for Advanced Manufacturing and Engineering delivers teaching in a real-world manufacturing environment, giving young people the opportunity to apply what they are learning on live shop floor projects. This, combined with access to the latest equipment at a 1,700 sq metre manufacturing hub located within Unipart Manufacturing helps to accelerate progression and ensures that graduates are industry-ready and futureproofed in the latest digital and sustainable manufacturing technologies that are currently in high demand.

The 5G Connected and Automated Logistics (5GCAL) project investigates self-drive heavy goods vehicles aiming to prove the effectiveness of connected and automated logistics involving HGVs using 5G, with automation seen as vital to providing greater productivity, and very much aligned to the ‘building site of the future’.

The STELLAR project has implemented novel solutions based on Artificial Intelligence, Generative Design, and bespoke algorithms to optimise offsite construction. This work is currently setting the benchmark for new innovative solutions based on Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) to support the sector and wider supply chain. This work is evidence-based – offering decision-makers with genetically engineered solutions.
